KUCHING: The annual Mayor’s Walk organised by Kuching South City Council (MBKS) will be held on August 21 this year.
Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said programme, part of the council’s larger Kuching Festival event serves to promote a healthy lifestyle and environmental awareness among members of the public.
“Mayor’s Walk is held with the objectives to enhance the engagement between family members, friends and co-workers in line with our Kuching Healthy City Concept.
“It also encourages the appreciation of the green shades around the city and to show the outside world that Kuching citizens are people who are environment-conscious and love their city.
“This is why they keep their city clean at all time,” he said in a statement recently.
Wee said the event will start off with the arrival of participants at 5:30am before a brief Zumba at 6:30am for half an hour. Then, the three-kilometre Mayor’s Walk will be flagged-off at the MBKS Foyer at 7.00am.
Members of the public who wishes to participate can register through the iPeople app, starting today. The registration will close once it reaches 10,000 participants.
At the same time the mayor said the Sihat Sarawakku Programme will be collaborating with MBKS in providing free health screenings during the event.
The type of health screenings that will be conducted are physical exams, blood pressure and pulse rate examination, body composition test and eye tests, with selected individuals eligible for additional urine and blood tests.
The health screenings are free and open to all Malaysians including Permanent Resident card holders.
