KUCHING: Che Hui Khor Moral Uplifting Society Kuching and Samarahan Division Youth is looking at organising a blood donation campaign that coincides with Mother’s Day at different locations annually.

Organising chairman, Yeo Siew Song.

The event’s organising chairman, Yeo Siew Song said the organisation chose Sarawak General Hospital for this year’s event because of its ideal location.

“We chose to do it at Sarawak General Hospital because of its logistics benefits like parking availability and a larger waiting area.

“Additionally, we saw this as a perfect opportunity since both Mother’s Day and International Nurses Day fall on the same date, which is on May 12.

“This time, we are aiming to at least have 120 bags of blood donated despite the hospital temporarily not accepting AB blood type donors,” he said.

Yeo stated the NGO had to book the date earlier in order to avoid clashing with other associations planning for a similar event.

Yeo also said it had organised mass blood donation events before at other locations, but the results were subpar.

“We have tried organising this event at Emart Batu Kawa and CityOne Megamall before, but we were late in the booking process and settled for a Saturday.

“The response from the public was lukewarm which led us to hold the blood donation campaign here at Sarawak General Hospital since 2022,” he said.

Blood donors were given a supply package consisting of daily necessities while female donors received a flower to celebrate Mother’s Day.
