KUCHING: The announcement of a six-day concert by British rock band Coldplay in Singapore next year, has Malaysian fans requesting the rock band to perform a second show in Malaysia.

For the record, Coldplay’s Music of the Sphere World Tour will be held in Kuala Lumpur on November 22 this year at Bukit Jalil National Stadium.

Meanwhile in Singapore, the British rock band will be performing for six days from January 23, 24, 26, 27, 30 and 31.

In view of Coldplay’s six-day concert in Singapore, the Arts, Live Festival and Events Association (Alife Malaysia) attributes the absence of an additional Coldplay concert in Kuala Lumpur to political protests, which left a negative impression on artistes and industry players.

On the other hand, Muar MP Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman said that Malaysia missed out on a significant economic lottery, as Coldplay managed to sell out six shows in Singapore.

New Sarawak Tribune recently interviewed locals to gauge their opinions on whether the Malaysian government should invite Coldplay for a two-day performance in Kuala Lumpur.

I believe that an extra day should be added to the Coldplay concert as many fans were unable to secure tickets and it presents a unique chance to witness the band in Malaysia.

I agree that by inviting Coldplay for a two-day performance in KL can allow fans who don’t have the chance in grabbing the ticket to see their favourite band live in front of their eyes. Apart from that, I think the economic benefits and the success demonstrated by Singapore’s extended concert should be emulated by the Malaysian government to add another day on their tour in Malaysia.

I personally feel that two days of concerts in Malaysia would be sufficient and reasonable, acknowledging the excitement it would bring to fans, especially since it marks Coldplay’s first visit to the country. Optimistically, our country can gain more revenue throughout this concert considering fans from our neighbouring countries will join us for the concert, however we also should consider other factors.

In my opinion, it would be good if the Malaysian government is able to invite Coldplay for a two-day performance in KL because even after the tickets have been sold out, a lot of Malaysians are still hoping for a second day for the concert. It is undeniable that going to a Coldplay concert is one of everyone’s bucket lists to experience.

I would say that it is rational to urge the Malaysian government to invite Coldplay for a two-day performance in KL since there are still a lot of people who wish to go but did not get the chance. Hence, there are irresponsible parties who bought tickets in the wrong way, not one or two but the amount is a lot. By at least doing an extra Coldplay concert, some more people can get the chance to feel this lifetime experience.

In my opinion, it is rational to urge the government to invite Coldplay for a two-day performance in KL. We should look at the bright side of this matter. If we only looked at the dark side which is promoting hedonism, then it is not valid as there are many other contributing factors which have long existed in Malaysia that promote hedonism especially among the younger generations. A concert would not hurt anyone. It is a once in a lifetime experience.
