LIMBANG: The Sarawak government has approved an additional allocation of RM4 million through the Regional Corridor Development Authority (Recoda) to build and upgrade several social and recreational facilities under the Limbang District Council (MDL).
Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development Assistant Minister Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail, through a report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), said a total of five projects under the Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA) have been implemented here starting March this year and these are expected to be completed within a year.
“Firstly, there is the construction of Limbang Town Square which will house a football field, recreational areas such as for jogging and so on, as well as a 175-lot carpark. The second phase will involve another 300 carpark lots and constructing a recreational area for children and adults.
“The second project is the upgrading of facilities at Taman Tasik Bukit Mas such as pedestrian walkways with a distance of over one kilometre,” he said.
He said the third project is the upgrading of three roundabouts, namely at Jalan Buangsiol, Batu Biah and Kampung Nauran, while the fourth project is the construction of a covered pedestrian walkway around Limbang town.
“The final project is the upgrading of facilities at Bukit Kayu Hitam which will have a natural recreational area,” he said after visiting the NRDA project site in Kampung Buangsiol and Limbang Bazaar on Monday (Aug 23).
Dr Abdul Rahman, who is also Bukit Kota assemblyman, said they have also proposed to the state government to build a lookout tower at Taman Tasik Bukit Mas where people could view Limbang and Brunei.
He said such a project would make Limbang one of the tourist attractions from within and outside the country.
“Currently, the tourism sector is relatively sluggish due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Hopefully by next year, domestic and foreign borders will be opened.
“By that time, the Sungai Limbang Riverbank Project will be completed,” he said.
