KUALA LUMPUR: The success of the 2019-2023 National Anti-Corruption Plan (NACP) requires political will and the fullest commitment of all Malaysians, said the Malaysia Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) Senior Vice Chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye.
Also the NACP had to be effectively monitored at all stages and the enforcement side should act without fear or favour, he said.
“NACP must be promoted through the media, including holding awareness campaigns in all government departments and agencies, private sector and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) right down to the communities,” said Lee in a statement today.
The five-year NACP plan was announced by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad yesterday with the aim of making Malaysia a corruption-free nation by 2023.
“Everyone has a role to play; we must adopt zero tolerance towards corruption and promote an anti-corruption culture throughout the nation using all available resources.
“Teaching the young from kindergarten to university level about the evils of corruption must be done if we are to succeed in building an anti-corruption culture. As I have consistently highlighted before, elements of anti-corruption education must be included in the school curriculum under the subject of religious and moral education.
“We have to teach moral values at a young age, so when students leave school or university and enter the workplace they would have realised the importance of not getting involved in corruption,” he added. – Bernama
