BAU: The State Disaster Committee will continue to organise campaigns and follow-up actions in its effort to monitor and contain the spread of rabies.

These concerted programmes are aimed at creating greater awareness and they include series of talks and briefings on prevention and control of rabies.

The first programme was successfully held at Kampung Bogag here yesterday with the participation of community leaders, villages heads, councillors and village committees.

Bau District medical officer Dr Theresa Lona Abel (pic) and state veterinary office Dr Nicholas Jenek jointly conducted the briefing, which stressed on the control of the disease from both the human and animal aspects.

Bau district officer Anielia Siam, who is also the district level Disaster Committee chairman, said yesterday’s campaign focused on providing detailed information on the role of village heads, community leaders and councillors to help spread awareness about rabies in their respective areas.
