Compulsory for food operators to get anti-typhoid injection
KUCHING: The Sarawak Health Department (JKN) has made it compulsory for all food operators in the state to get an anti-typhoid injection.
Its director Dr Jamilah Hashim in a press statement said that the injection was mandatory as written under the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009 and Food Act 1983.
“The department is concerned about this and will carry out full enforcement action to ensure compliance is made by food operators involved.
“Therefore, all food operators are urged to cooperate and adhere to good food handling ethics,” she said.
She added that food entrepreneurs are also reminded to ensure that food operators undergo training from institutions recognised by the Ministry of Health (MoH) as required under the same law.
“In addition, food operators need to practice good personal hygiene including proper handwashing practices and hygienic and safe food handling, as well as wearing appropriate clothing such as headgear, bright-coloured aprons, face masks, and gloves.
According to her, bright-coloured aprons will be able to show traces of dirt stains which won’t be that noticeable on dark-coloured ones, which could risk contamination if left unwashed.
She stressed that action will be taken against food operators who fail to comply with the rules.
Members of the public have been advised to contact the health department if there are any queries or complaints regarding food hygiene and safety by visiting their website at http://fsq.moh.gov.my or contacting their nearest division health department.
