KUCHING: Movement for Change Sarawak (MoCS) said there is no need for Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to keep repeating he would be handing over the reins to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Its chairman Francis Paul Siah said it is not for Dr Mahathir to decide his successor, but Malaysians.
Siah said Malaysians in general want Dr Mahathir to step down after an interim period of two years as agreed.
“Unfortunately, the prime minister chooses to ignore the people’s wish for him not to overstay his welcome and to stop playing political games at this tail-end of his long, illustrious political career.
“The choice of Malaysians must be respected and we don’t need Dr Mahathir to tell us again and again who will succeed him.
“MoCS also wishes to assure the prime minister that no one will blame him if Anwar falters as the PM. The people will accept that responsibility for their mistake,” he added.
On Dr Mahathir’s statement that he is still the only person capable of managing the country, MoCS asks Dr Mahathir to snap out of his self-aggrandisement that he is still as powerful, or as important or respected, as he was 16 years ago.
Siah said Dr Mahathir must realise that this is not 2003 when he was the powerful Umno president and lord and master of Barisan Nasional (BN).
