KUCHING: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim joined the local community at Kubah Ria here for lunch yesterday (Jan 20).
Earlier over 2,000 people have gathered at Kubah Ria expecting for the arrival of Anwar at the Majlis Kenduri Bersama Rakyat programme during the Unity Government Tour.
This was Anwar’s first official visit to Sarawak since he took oath as Prime Minister on Nov 24, 2022.
At around 2 pm, Anwar arrived at Kubah Ria together with Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
Before having lunch, he watched a Sarawak traditional music performance and then visited a gula apong ice cream stall as a symbolic launch of the programme.
Deputy Premiers, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian, were also seen at the programme together with other state dignitaries and officials.
Minister of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, Deputy Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi as well as Federal Minister of National Unity Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang were also present at the event.
Federal Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri was also present. Satok assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki, Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang and Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman were also seen having lunch together with heads of department and community leaders.
At about 3 pm, Anwar adjourned from Kubah Ria, shaking hands and taking photos with members of the community and media as he walked to his motorcade to head to the airport.
He departed for Kuala Lumpur at the conclusion of his two-day official visit to the state.
