MIRI: Miri MP Dr Michael Teo is certain that Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will be Malaysia’s next prime minister. Hence, he called on the party’s grassroots members to give their undivided support to him.
“I am certain that Anwar will be Malaysia’s 8th prime minister,” he said.
Dr Teo pointed out that Anwar was a man who had suffered for others, advocating on issues such as native land in Sarawak.
“He had suffered injustices; he made personnel sacrifices for the people over the last 11 years. He was in prison for championing the people’s rights and that is why we follow him,” he said during Miri PKR Women’s wing solidarity night last Friday at a leading hotel here.
“For the past 20 years since the formation of PKR, Anwar has worked hard to get the party’s members to embrace the change. We cannot simply change our ‘captain’ (Anwar),” he said.
He was confident that whatever political problems the party have, Anwar should be able to help solve it.
A non-executive special advisor (Sarawak affairs) in the Deputy Prime Minister’s office, Datuk Seri Hafsah Harun, in her brief speech earlier on, said party members must avoid conflicts and support the top leader in order to move forward.
“We cannot have many ‘heads’ in a political party,” she said.
Also present that night were Amanah Youth Sarawak head Mohamad Fadillah Sabali, PKR Hulu Rajang chairman Abun Sui Anyit and some 50 members.
