MUKAH: Food and drink stall operators at Gerai Bumiputera in the old town area here are eagerly waiting to use the building’s front area whose upgrading seems to have been completed.
The front part of the building has been upgraded which among other things, involves extending the roof and providing concrete ground.
Looking at the signboard, the roof upgrading project of building under the jurisdiction of the Dalat and Mukah District Council (MDDM) is financed by the federal government.
Rabuyah Abdullah, 48, is one of the eatery operators eager to use the upgraded front part of the building.
The building is popularly known as Minangkabau stall because of its roof architectural design, which resembles the Indonesian Minangkabau house style.
According to Rabuyah, she and other eatery operators have been waiting for some years for the upgrading of the building front part.
“Syukur Allahamdullilah, now this building has been upgraded for our comfort and our customers too,” she said to New Sarawak Tribune on Saturday.
Currently they are waiting for a directive from the authorities to use the upgraded front part of the building, she added.
This is the first time since 1984 that the building is upgraded, she said, adding that she operated together with her in-laws since then and starting on her own in early 2000s.
She said prior to this it was quite uncomfortable for them and the customers especially during rainy days, as they were using portable and folding camps.
Rabuyah, who sells among others, delicious ayam penyet and nasi lemak, said a better lighting system would enhance their stalls outlook as well as adding attraction to the Gerai Bumiputera, especially at night.
She is planning to also open her stall at night in the future, she revealed.
