PHNOM PENH: The men’s cerebral palsy (CP) football squad were overjoyed to end the 10-year gold medal drought in the event after beating Indonesia 3-1 on penalty kicks on the sixth day of the 2023 Asean Para Games (APG) here last night.

The game went into a shootout after the two teams were tied 1-1 at the end of full time at the National Olympic Stadium, thus improving the achievement of the two bronze medals won by the CP squad at the 2013 (Myanmar) and 2017 (Kuala Lumpur) editions of the APG.

Asnan Md Zuki’s men first made an appearance in APG in Naypyidaw, Myanmar in 2013.

The victory saw the national squad grabbed the nation’s 47th gold medal in Cambodia, followed by 38 silver and 28 bronze today.

However, the biennial games which will come to a close tomorrow will still have one event left which is badminton.

The focus of the national contingent today will definitely be on the badminton camp which will be in three finals with Mhd Amin Burhanuddin in the men’s singles (SL4- physical disability).
