SIBU: Sarawak Civil Defence Force (APM) personnel have yet again come to the rescue when it matters most; they helped capture a massive 14-foot-long king cobra near Jalan Jerawit, here.
The incident, which occurred around 7.15 pm on June 24, was promptly reported on APM Sibu’s Facebook page last night (June 26).
Weighing approximately 12kg, the enormous serpent was discovered hiding inside a culvert near a residential area.
The rescue drew a crowd of curious onlookers, eager to witness the APM team’s swift and efficient action. The cobra’s sheer size was captured in a photo posted online, highlighting the dangerous poisonous reptile whose bite can kill a human being in 15 minutes.
The public’s interest and the APM’s adept handling of the situation ensured both the safety of the residents and the successful capture of the snake.
And in *Simunjan*, a 6.5-foot-long reticulated python was captured after it was spotted taking refuge at the garage area of a house in Kampung Sekendu Melayu last night.
The incident came to light around 9.40 pm when the owner discovered the slithery creature in a pile of waste in the garage area.
Fearing for his safety, he quickly alerted the Simunjan APM for assistance in dealing with the python.
Simunjan APM district officer Lt Mohammad Elyas Abdul Rhanie said a two-man team was promptly dispatched to the scene, about 6km away.
Upon arrival, they confirmed that the reptile was still within the pile and used snake tongs to capture it.
The python, weighing about 4kg, was later released back into its natural habitat, away from the village.
