MIRI: The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) was on a different rescue mission this time – to set free a bird that got itself entangled in a kite string at Promin Jaya Senadin here this morning.
An APM spokesman said the crane was spotted by two Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) Miri staff who happened to pass by the area.
The SFC employees saw the bird in the air with its wings outstretched and struggling to fly at a height of at least 30 metres near a power cable.
The employees were puzzled to see the crane “floating in the air” and not flying. It was at that point that they realised the bird was entangled in a kite string.
As soon as the APM was alerted to the bird’s predicament, four personnel were despatched to the location around 8.30 am.
The spokesman said the bird was eventually freed after 30 minutes and happily flew away.
