SIBU: An application for assistance to bear the cost of funeral expenses for the three victims of the Triso tragedy will be forwarded to the state government soon.

Political secretary to the chief minister Romeo Christopher Tegong said he had promised to help arrange the funeral for three of the victims here.

“We offer our condolences and hope that the family members of the deceased are resilient and patient over this great test,” he added.

Romeo was among those in attendance to usher in the bodies of the three victims of the Triso tragedy which arrived at Sibu Mortuary in Bukit Lima here on Sunday (Jan 3) morning.

Two funeral vans and a vehicle belonging to a family member transported the bodies of the three victims which had arrived at the mortuary at 1am from Sri Aman.

Also accompanying Romeo were the victim’s mother Munah Agon and the late Lorna Ting’s husband, Phang Wei Beng.

The three victims are Lorna Ting, 33, Alvin Phang, 12, and Wallace Phang, 7.

In the incident on January 1, Ting with her sister Siti Aisyah Abdullah, 36, and seven other family members died after the four-wheel drive vehicle they were in plunged into the Batang Lupar at the Triso ferry ramp in Sebuyau.

All of them are believed to be on their way from Kapit to Kuching.

Earlier, the bodies of Siti Aisyah and her five children were buried at the Kampung Hulu Islamic Cemetery, Sri Aman on Saturday.

Her five children are four-month-old Mohd Ahmad Mohd Hamzah, Muhd Mustaqim Mohd Hamzah, 5, Mohd Aiman Mohd Hamzah, 7, Khairunnisa Muhamad Hamzah, 14, and Nur Syuhada Mohamad Hamzah, 16.
