KUCHING: Local commercial and industrial players have been urged to promptly apply for electricity bill discounts from Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) before Dec 31.

The reminder comes for the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sarawak (ACCCIS).

It said this will enable them to benefit from the electricity bill discounts initiative provided under the “Sarawakku Sayang Special Aid (BKSS)” package, applicable to electricity consumption between July 1 and December 31 of this year.

“The electricity bill discounts initiative will no longer accept applications submitted after Dec 31 this year. The discount rates are 15 per cent for small commercial traders and 10 per cent for small industrial traders.

“The discount will not be available automatically. Unlike previously, applicants are now required to apply to benefit from the discount. Conversely, residential users will automatically receive the discount without the need to submit any application,” it said.

The discount, it added, is exclusively applicable to users falling under tariff categories C1 (normal commercial) and I1 (normal industrial).

Examples of eligible applicants include coffee shops, retail stores, restaurants, workshops, and hawker stalls.

They can all submit their applications to SEB, provided their total consumption is less than 30,000 kWh for the period from July 1 to December 31, 2023 (six months), at 5,000 kWh per month on average.

“Applications can be submitted either at the nearest SEB customer service counter or via email to customercare@sarawakenergy.com.

“The required documents include a valid trade licence, a valid tenancy agreement (if the registered electricity account holder’s name is different from the name stated in the trade licence), and a clear photocopy of the electricity bill showing the contract account’s number.”

For inquiries, reach out to the SEB customer service hotline at 1300-88-3111 or visit their official website.
