KUCHING: The Ministry of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development is urging early childhood education institutions that have not yet applied for the RM5,000 Special Annual Grant (GTK) in the state to register for it now.
Its minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said that as of Dec 31 last year, 2,958 out of 3,063 or 97 percent of such institutions in the state had applied for the grant.
She revealed this during a press conference at her office, Baitul Makmur Building II on Monday (Mar 15).
Fatimah added that the grant was now open for application.
“Those who apply must make sure that there is a special bank account for the grant distribution and not a joint account,” she said.
The grant can be applied either manually or through the ministry’s website at http://kwkpk.sarawak.gov.my.
Introduced in 2019, it is to be used to prepare balanced meals for the children, fun learning activities, professional development of educators and carers and programmes which involve parents.
It can also be used to pay for the rents of premises and the salaries of teachers and staff members as well as to help purchase cleaning and sanitisation supplies and necessities in order to comply with the Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs).
The grant can also be used for small repair works and also for purchasing furniture and electrical goods.
