MUKAH: A concerned member of the public hopes that the government would also appreciate the role played by reporters and media personnel by considering some sort of ‘gesture’ to them during the movement control order (MCO) amid the global Covid-19 pandemic.
The reporters and media personnel, also said to be frontliners, were among the sectors deemed as essential services, thus, were allowed to work during the MCO.
Sarawak Business Federation secretary-general Jonathan Chai realised the importance of their roles in disseminating information to the public.
“For that matter, I think our government should provide special allowances to all reporters and media personnel who are the key disseminators of information to the public during this critical time,” he said.
He was quoted as saying in his comment on the People-Centric Economic Stimulus Package (Prihatin) in a local English daily on Sunday.
Recently, it was reported that Tellian assemblyman Yussibnosh Balo had urged the Sarawak government to consider providing incentives to media personnel.
He said it was their duty to report and disseminate information on the Covid-19 pandemic and they also faced risks.
