KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Malaysian flag was hoisted at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) in the spirit of patriotism and to commemorate the month of independence.
UNIMAS vice chancellor Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi officiated at the National Day launch ceremony and the Kibar Jalur Gemilang 2022 campaign at the Chancellery Square today.
Mohamad Kadim said that when independence, freedom, and progress emerged, a patriotic attitude should be instilled in the soul and mind.
“As a citizen and also a student, we should appreciate the true meaning of independence and not just the rhetoric that revolves around history,” he said.
During the UNIMAS level National Day 2022 celebration ceremony, he also stressed that the current generation is also responsible for shaping the country’s direction in maintaining the harmony that has long existed in multi-racial families throughout the country.
He said today’s independence means a country free from the grip of colonialism and independent to form its own nation.
“Therefore, the public is called upon to instil the spirit of love for the country and maintain the harmony that has been established even though this country is occupied by people of diverse races,” he added.
In a related development, he noted that this year UNIMAS would be celebrating its 30th anniversary in Sarawak.
Also present were UNIMAS deputy vice-chancellor (Student and Alumni Affairs) Professor Dr Kamarudin Kana and UNIMAS assistant vice-chancellor (Leadership and Development) Professor Datuk Mohd Fadzil Abdul Rahman.
