BINTULU: Bintulu Port held a ‘Majlis Jasamu Dikenang’ reception as a token of appreciation, remembrance and respect for the sacrifices and contributions that have been rendered to it by staff members who have retired or are due to retire soon.

The reception was held yesterday (June 10) at the Parkcity Everly Hotel Bintulu, and was officiated at by its Group chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Mohammad Medan Abdullah.

“Since the early 1980s, the Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad Group (BPHB) and the Bintulu Port Authority (BPA) have laid a strong foundation for the provision of port services to meet the cargo handling and marine service needs for Bintulu and its hinterland.

“This foundation has positioned the port well for the future, and it was the all due to the dedication of all staff, the management and Board members of the respective organisations over the years since the inception of Bintulu Port Authority in 1981.

“I would also like to thank all port users and cargo owners for their continuous support and loyalty to Bintulu Port.

Those of you who are retiring now were amongst the pioneers from those early days. For your service and dedication, tonight I can say with humility and in all sincerity that you have contributed well and faithfully to the success of the port, our company, state and the nation,” Medan said in his short address in thanking the staff and acknowledging the role and support of their families.

For the record, BPHB has been holding similar events in the past since 2017, after Medan was made as the new Group CEO. These have been meant to acknowledge staff service contributions as well as to motivate the younger generations who will take over the management and operations of the port in the coming years.
