SIBU: July 22 is a significant date for Sarawakians to reflect and remember the history of Sarawak, says Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah.
The Minister Women, Early Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development said the hosting of Sarawak Day in Sibu this year is apt to highlight contributions made by Sarawak nationalists like Rosli Dhoby during the pre-independence period.
She pointed out that this is the first time for the celebration of Sarawak Day to be held physically after two years of hybrid celebration due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The celebration will be very specially with various songs and dance performances. There is also the showcase of Rosli Dhoby musical theatre and special videos featuring the Lost Kingdom as well as Sarawakian’s aspirations for Sarawak,” she said.
She said this before the Sarawak Day Fun Ride flag off at Jalan Bandong here today.
Commenting on the programme, she said it is one of the ways to inspire and instill the spirit of patriotism especially to the younger generation.
She said it is crucial for the younger generation to know and be aware of the struggles as well as challenges faced by their forefathers in fighting for Sarawak’s independence and to see the state be governed by its own people.
