KUCHING: Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong Wui Wui hopes Sacofa will show respect to the wishes of the residents of Taman Supreme at Jalan Nyatoh and the vicinity not to have telecommunication tower build in their areas.
“Since there is a strong objection from the residents here, I hope Sacofa should respect,” Yong said yesterday
“ May be, it can have a proper dialogue and engage the public before bulldozing over the project,” she told the media during a visit to the site of Sacofa telecommunication tower at Taman Supreme, Jalan Nyatoh here yesterday.
According to her, it is still in time for Sacofa to scrap the project.
“I have contacted Sacofa CEO through my channel but so far they are still overseas and will only be backed on 7th March.
“But if they are really respecting the wishes of the local residents, I think a stop order can be immediately directed down but so far we have seen none. And I am very disappointed over the way Sacofa is handling the matter in trying to play around and fooling us around and the residents around, which I think should not be the attitude of a responsible corporate company,” she said.
Member of Parliament for Bandar Kuching , Chong Chieng Jen, who was also on the ground together with Yong yesterday said digging and excavation work at the site started on 19 Feb without notification or consultation from the residents in the vicinity.
“When the residents inquired from the contractor, the contractor told them that they were going to build the telco tower. Of course this is a very old neigbhourhood and they had been there for decades and they have the right to have their neigbhourhood maintained status quo, so they objected,” Chong said.
