KUCHING: Angkatan Bersatu Anak Muda (Armada) Sarawak has expressed its hope that the federal Ministry of Education (MoE) will show respect for Sarawak’s education rights.

Armada Sarawak chief Alexander Frusis made this statement in response to recent reports indicating that Minister of Education Fadhlina Sidek declined to meet with Sarawak Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn, to discuss the state’s education rights.

“I am concerned from the moment I read the statement, as it may give rise to an unhealthy situation and make it extremely difficult to establish future collaborations if such incidents continue,” he said in a statement.

He further emphasised the importance of MoE respecting the process to ensure that collaborations yield significant outcomes, benefiting both Sarawak and Malaysia, in accordance with the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

“I also hope that MoE demonstrates its commitment to addressing the issue of underprivileged schools in Sarawak and fulfilling the demands associated with it.”

Earlier, Sagah expressed his disappointment, stating that Fadhlina had disregarded his ministry’s attempts to arrange a meeting to discuss the education rights of the state.

“I am deeply saddened that our request for a meeting with the federal minister (Fadhlina) has not been successful. To make matters worse, there was no professional courtesy extended to my ministry during her recent visit to Sarawak,” he remarked.
