MIRI: An armed man robbed a budget hotel of more than RM4,500 early yesterday.
Miri District Deputy Police chief, Supt Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the incident took place at around 2.50am when the masked man entered the hotel at Jalan Brooke and pointed a machete at the cashier.
He said the 24-year-old cashier had initially handed over an envelope containing RM100 to the suspect, but the latter rejected it and demanded her to hand over other envelopes.
“The suspect was said to have refused to leave the premises until the cashier handed over an envelope containing more than RM4,000 to him. We believe he is a local based on the dialect he used,” he said.
Stanley said the case was being investigated under Section 392/397 of the Penal Code for robbery.
