GEORGE TOWN: The Malaysian Army (TDM) has praised the swift action by a soldier in saving two people who fell off the Penang Bridge on Monday (Jan 15).
In a statement posted on its official Facebook, TDM said Corporal Mazlan Abdul Rahman, who was passing by the area, immediately jumped into the sea upon hearing cries for help from beneath the bridge.
The soldier, who is attached to the Second Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment, also performed CPR on the victims.
“The swift action has saved the lives of the civilians believed to have fallen into the sea.
“The bravery and quick action shown by him should serve as an example for all TDM personnel. Congratulations and well done, Corporal Mazlan,” read the statement.
In the 7.45 pm incident, a man and woman were believed to have fallen off the Penang Bridge at Kilometre 2.8. – BERNAMA
