BAU: The army foiled a local man’s attempt to smuggle out controlled goods to a neighbouring country through Serikin yesterday (Aug 1).
The incident happened around 3.30 pm when patrol soldiers intercepted a suspicious lorry in Serikin, some 100 metres from the Malaysia-Indonesia border.
A spokesman for the First Infantry Division said upon thorough inspection, it was discovered that the 52-year-old lorry driver was attempting to use an illegal route to bypass security checks to transport a considerable quantity of controlled goods from Malaysia to Indonesia.
“Further inspections led to the seizure of 210 packets of rice (10kg each) and 2,000 packets of sugar (1kg each).
“The soldiers also seized 30 boxes of liquor and various other food items that were on the lorry,” the spokesman said.
The seized goods were value at RM125,780, including a three-tonne lorry worth RM90,000.
Bau police are investigating.
