KUCHING: Artisans are in great need of assistance that focus on alternative avenues that artists can pursue to generate income without straying too far from their respective practices.
Education, Science and Technological Research Minister Datuk Seri Michael Manyin urged art (and artists) associations to intensify their effort to provide the various avenues for their members to show their artworks.
This would eliminate the perception that having an arts career would not generate income.
Manyin also pointed out that arts play an integral role in uniting people, so it is vital for the needs of artists to be accommodated to enable their innovations to be constantly developed.
“Art is often considered the process or product of deliberately arranging elements in a way that appeals to the senses or emotions,” he said when officiating at Art Teachers Exhibition (Artex) held at Wesberly Galleria which started last Nov 29 and will run till Dec 28.
Artex is where art teachers, tutors, instructors, and lecturers from various schools, colleges and universities statewide show their artworks.
Some 41 exhibitors participated in the exhibition, said organising chairman Melton Kais. “Art teachers are responsible for developing the talent of each student. Therefore, they are climate and culture changers, showcasing their work and allowing students to do the same. They teach, encourage and inspire students to practice their skills and techniques,” he said.
