KUCHING: The construction of the RM6.5 million fire station and quarters in Asajaya is 47 percent completed.
Yesterday (Mar 29), Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) director-general Datuk Seri Mohammad Hamdan Wahid paid an official working visit to the project site as well as to Sarawak Bomba headquarters.
Also with him were Sarawak Bomba director Khirudin Drahman, his deputy director Zainal Madasin, Sarawak Bomba Academy Regional Commandant Gregory Kurung Suwen and Sarawak Bomba Zone 1 chief Henderi Ardimanshah.
The latter had expressed his dissatisfaction with the progress of the construction and reminded the contractor and project supervisor to catch up with it (the construction) as the issue of delay affects the department’s development.
The project was supposed to be 55 percent completed by now, however, it got delayed due Covid-19 and insufficient workers.
The construction of the project, which was included in the 10th Malaysia Plan (10MP), began on Nov 25, 2019 and is expected to be completed by Sept 15 this year.
Engsunai Enterprise Sdn Bhd, which was awarded with the project, is currently constructing a main unit and four units of additional facilities on a 1.27-acre land.
It includes a main fire station and machinery space, a store building with prayer rooms, a Class E quarters and three Class F quarters, a Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) substation, a garbage house including wheeled garbage bins, a sheltered parking space, internal services, and exterior works.
In addition to his visit to the project site, Mohammad Hamdan also delivered a special briefing on the National Fire and Rescue Policy, which was approved by the Federal Cabinet last year.
Bomba officers and members throughout Sarawak also attended the briefing virtually.
