KAPIT: The state-level birthday celebration of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah yesterday kicked off with the thanksgiving ceremony at the Jabal An Nur Kapit Mosque.
State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar and his wife Puan Sri Datin Amar Fatimah Mohamad Iskandar were present to represent the Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib.
The ceremony began with Maghrib prayers at around 6.35pm, followed by the recital of Yassin, ‘zikir marhaban’ and thanksgiving prayers.
It was followed by Isyak prayers and a dinner with dignitaries at around 8pm.
The birthday celebration of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong continues today with a tea banquet at the Kapit Town Square at around 10am.
The celebration is then followed by a Symphony Concert at the same venue scheduled to take place at 8pm tonight.
Also present at the event were Minister in the Premier of Sarawak’s Department and minister-in-charge for the event Datuk John Sikie Tayai, Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs and UKAS) Datuk Abdullah Saidol, Deputy Minister in the Premier of Sarawak’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya, Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication (Utility) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, Deputy Minister of Telecommunication Datuk Liwan Lagang, Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Dr Hazland Abang Hipni, acting State Secretary Datuk Seri Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki and Sarawak Islamic Council president Datuk Misnu Taha.
