KUALA LUMPUR: Two national mixed doubles pairs – Mohammad Syafiq Kamal-Aifa Azman and Ivan Yuen-Rachel Arnold – brushed aside their Hong Kong opponents to check into the semi-finals of the Asian Squash Mixed Doubles Championship in Hangzhou, China yesterday.
In yesterday’s quarter-finals at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre, Syafiq-Aifa defeated Tang Ming Hong-Tong Tsz Wing 11-7, 11-1 while Ivan-Rachel downed Matthew Lai-Cheng Nga Ching 11-3, 11-7.
Muhammad Addeen Idrakie Bahtiar-Noor Ainaa Amani Ampandi’s hopes of joining them in the last four were dashed when they fell 3-11, 4-11 to India’s Harinder Pal Singh-Dipika Pallikal in the quarter-finals.
In today’s semi-finals, Syafiq-Aifa will meet Harinder-Dipika while Ivan-Rachel will face Abhay Singh-Anahat Singh, also of India.
“We looking forward to (getting) good results (tomorrow),” Squash Racquets Association of Malaysia (SRAM) coaching director Major (Rtd) S. Maniam said in an audio clip shared with the media yesterday. – Bernama
