KUCHING: A man believed to be involved in an assault against an alleged car thief has been arrested by the police here.
OCPD ACP Ashmon Bajah said the local man, 46, was detained at around 9.15pm last Friday (Jul 22).
“A special team comprising personnel from the Kuching Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) and the Padungan Police Station arrested the man believed to be involved in a viral video recently showing a man attacking an alleged car thief,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Ashmon said the suspect was remanded for four days until July 27 for further investigation.
“Investigations are being carried out under Section 323 and Section 506 of the Penal Code for causing hurt and criminal intimidation,” he explained.
The local police chief added that investigation papers would be submitted to the Attorney General Chambers for further instruction.
“I remind everyone to avoid taking actions against the law and to avoid speculating on this case as investigations are still ongoing,” he urged.
