SARATOK: The extension of the five to 25 per cent electricity subsidies to June proves that the government under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is aware of the high cost of living faced by the people.

Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri said that the business community would be relieved with the state government’s decision to continue assisting Sarawakians through the Batuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang (BKSS) initiative.

“For me, this is a great decision because there are still so many people who have been  financially affected and face an economic setback in the post-Covid-19 pandemic.

“I am confident that this electric bill discount will continue to ease the burden of the people.

“The discount should not be overlooked. Therefore, appreciate it and thank Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg,” he said.

The assemblyman was reacting to the government’s decision to extend the six-month electric bill discount.

The state government has decided to continue the BKSS initiative through the electric bill discount from five to 25 per cent for domestic, commercial and industrial use in the first six months of 2023 and involves an allocation up to RM200 million.

In the meantime, Mohamad, while visiting an elderly woman, Buk Tam, in Kampung Tanjung Hulu Saratok, also touched on the Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC) introduced by the Ministry of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development.

He urged those who are 60 and above to apply for the KGC and enjoy its benefits.

“Even though it has been introduced a few years ago, I believe there are those out there who have not applied for the KGC.

“That being said, I hope members of political parties can help to identify residents who have not signed up yet for the card.

“Most importantly, applicants must be Malaysians with the “K” status on their identification card, and Sarawak residents aged 60 and above.

“Once they have the KGC, there are a lot of specialties and benefits such as discounts on products and services for Sarawakians from KGC strategic vendor partners. It also offers RM3,000 assistance to pay for funeral costs if the card holder passes away,” he added.
