MIRI: Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau yesterday donated two wheelchairs to Long Lama clinic as part of his initiative to help the rural clinic and the surrounding community in receiving adequate medical care.

“I received a phone call from Penghulu Desmond Yap, chairman of the Long Lama Clinic Visitors Board, telling me that the clinic is in dire need of wheelchairs because the only unit provided by the Health Ministry is not enough,” Dennis said.

The clinic receives an average of 120 patients per day.

The high patient count is due to the clinic’s locality which is strategically located in the middle of Baram. The clinic currently is served by four doctors, one specialist doctor and 39 other staff.

On another note, Dennis hoped the Health Ministry would urgently look into the lack of staff quarters at the clinic.

“The two blocks of living quarters are hardly sufficient and some families have to share rooms. This is not healthy at all,” Dennis said.
