KUCHING: The determination, commitment and brilliant ideas of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg have resulted in what Sarawak has achieved in terms of its revenue, said Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau.
He noted that under Abang Johari’s leadership, there have been opportunities to diversify revenue sources which include charging service tax on oil and gas products. This has been a big contributed to the state’s coffers.
“We know that people are now rushing to Sarawak to open up their businesses because they see the stability of the government and politics under the Premier and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).
“These are all the ingredients that enabled people to have the confidence to make businesses in Sarawak that contribute to the state’s income,” he told New Sarawak Tribune when contacted, yesterday (Feb 2).
Dennis was commenting on the state’s RM11.9-billion revenue that came from four main contributors — tax, non-tax revenue, non-revenue receipts and federal grants and reimbursements.
He added that this revenue will also help to develop the rural areas.
“That is why almost every village has 24-hour electricity and millions of ringgit are spent under the Rural Transformation Project (RTP) that enable us to do ‘kampung’ roads and other facilities,” he said.
Dennis also emphasised that more support should be given to Abang Johari and his initiatives to realise the state’s vision of being a developed state.
“Sarawak is in the good hands of the Premier. Every Sarawakian should support the GPS government to develop our state,” he said.
