KUCHING: With the festive season just around the corner, Noni Bakri, a wife and mother, was jumping for joy when she received the cash aid from Semariang assemblywoman Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali and Petra Jaya MP Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
The adopted mother of a special child Aifin Shafiq Khaliq Liew, 11, Noni said she was thankful for the aid which would help ease her burden.
“The cash assistance means a lot to my family since I am the sole breadwinner. It helps us prepare for Hari Raya,” she said, adding that her husband was unable to do normal work due to a heart disease.
Noni was among 210 from destitute families who received financial assistance through ‘Tautan Kasih Ambang Aidilfitri & Gawai’, organised by Samariang Welfare agency in collaboration with GPS/PBB Women and Youth Movement of Samariang branch, at Kampung Malaysia Jaya Multipurpose Hall here in Jalan Astana yesterday.
It was learned that the financial aid was given to the poor including orphans, single mothers and senior citizens residing in the Samariang area.
