MIRI: Miri Volleyball Association (MVA) president Alan Ling has expressed a bold vision for Miri to become a leading force in volleyball, not only within Sarawak but also on the national stage.

Ling, who also serves on the Board of Management of the National Sports Council (NSC), voiced his enthusiasm following the inclusion of volleyball as a key sport in the experienced community sports leagues for Miri Division this year.

He stressed the importance of such competitions in uncovering hidden talents that can be nurtured and developed.

“This kind of competition is instrumental in discovering and training new talents in volleyball,” he stated during the Community League volleyball tornament organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) at Pei Min Secondary School (SM) court on Sunday (June 30).

The event saw a remarkable turnout, with Ling expressing satisfaction over the enthusiastic participation from the local community.

The tournament from June 29 to 30 concluded with the MVA’s team emerging as champions.

Kolej Tun Datu Tuanku Haji Bujang Miri’s Optimum team clinched third place, winning RM200, a trophy, and medals. The prizes were awarded by Ling, with KBS Miri officer Roley Lagir in attendance.

Looking ahead, KBS Miri’s office has announced plans to include a men’s category in the 2025 League, signaling further expansion and inclusivity for the sport.

This development aligns with Ling’s vision of establishing Miri as a prominent hub for volleyball, fostering a culture of excellence and competitive spirit in the community.
