KUCHING: The Kuching Surimas Fans of Art, Dance, and Music Association, in collaboration with Plaza Merdeka Mall, successfully hosted the Mid-Autumn Festival celebration from Sept 7 to 21.
The event aimed to promote Sarawak’s rich traditions, culture, and arts through a variety of competitions and performances.
“The festival, organised in partnership with the Kuching Association of Talent Development and Welfare of Special Needs (KATSN), featured the Gifted Art Exhibition, live performances, and a series of exciting contests, including lantern making, singing, colouring, and cheongsam competitions,” according to a statement, Tuesday (Sept 24).
A standout event was the Kids Cheongsam Contest, where children from diverse backgrounds wore traditional attire, highlighting Sarawak’s spirit of multiculturalism.
In Category A (ages 4 to 11), the winners were Jane Then Jin (first place), Aiysah Nuba Zahira (second place) and Nur Quintina Batrisyia (third place).
For Category B (ages 12 to 17), the champion was Dayang Alya Oriyanna Abang Abd Rahim.
The Lantern Making Competition, which took place from Sept 10 to 21, adorned Plaza Merdeka with vibrant, handmade lanterns symbolising family reunions, harmony, and joy.
In the Lantern Making Competition, the winners were Liew Thien Chong (first place), Yap Hock Soon (second place) and Boon Sin Khoo (third place).
“The Mid-Autumn Festival at Plaza Merdeka was a great success, bringing people together and celebrating unity in diversity,” the statement added.
