MUKAH: The Mukah Small Traders and Hawkers Association (PPPKM) contributed RM1,600 to support the establishment of a ‘Bird-Free Zone’ at the Medan Mall Concourse in Mukah.
According to trader Fazila Satma Majidi, the concourse was previously filled with birds, disrupting business activities.
“This area is a source of income for us, and the presence of birds has impacted cleanliness here, especially due to bird droppings,” she said.
“For this reason, we (the traders) have taken measures such as applying grease and installing nets to prevent birds from perching in the concourse area,” she told reporters.
She added that various methods had been attempted to deter the birds previously, but none proved effective.
“These methods included using smoke, firecrackers, and hanging ‘discs’ in the concourse area,” she explained.
Fazila also noted that cooperation and support from all parties are essential to achieving this goal.
“We have received full cooperation and support from Hock Peng, Medan Mall, and the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO).
“Alhamdulillah, with the cooperation and support so far, this bird-repelling project has shown positive results,” she added.
Furthermore, Fazila stressed that cooperation from traders is crucial to maintaining a clean and comfortable environment for all visitors.
Representing the traders, Fazila hopes that other responsible parties will recognise their efforts and help ease the burden to reach this goal.
She added that the area has the potential to become one of Mukah’s attractions due to its strategic location and ability to draw more visitors.
