KUCHING: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg received a courtesy visit from Persatuan Aspirasi Guru Sarawak at his office in the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) on Friday.
“This visit is to introduce the establishment of Persatuan Aspirasi Guru Sarawak, which consists of teachers from all over Sarawak.
“They have established a platform to assist the Sarawak government in elevating the state’s education sector.
“The organisation received approval from the Registrar of Societies (ROS) last January,” Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD) Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee said after attending the visit together with the association’s delegation here.
Meanwhile, its president Mutalib Kasim, who led the delegation, said they had discussed several matters with Abang Johari, including the direction and related programmes of the association.
He said that the association aimed to gather all teachers from the 30 District Education Offices (PPD) across Sarawak through a convention that would be held soon.
Mutalib said the convention would be a platform for the teachers to discuss all issues related to state education and write a proposal on the issues to be submitted to the Sarawak government.
“The Premier responded positively and he gave MEITD full responsibility to look after the association.
“We are very grateful to the Premier for his positive response and we are very enthusiastic because there are not many teacher organisations in Sarawak.
“This association will also contribute to education in Sarawak so that our students will be more successful,” he said.
The objectives of the establishment of the association are to assist the Sarawak government and the Malaysian Ministry of Education (MoE) in implementing educational policies.
It also serves as a platform to organise and conduct activities in the education field as well as to provide suggestions, advisory services, research data, and any necessary support to education-related agencies in Sarawak.
