KUCHING: Minister for Transport Sarawak Datuk Sri Lee Kim Shin received a courtesy call from Kuching Xiang Qi (Chinese Chess) Association led by its chairman Kapitan Datuk Lau Sie Lok today.
The meeting took place at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly complex here.
During the meeting, the Association’s president Jee Xin Ru shared details about the association’s planned visit to China from December 8 to 14.
This trip will include exchanges in Nanjing, Suqian and Dongtai, Jiangsu Province, where the Kuching Xiang Qi Association will engage with local Chinese chess organisations and entrepreneurs.
The aim is to enhance cultural and economic ties between Sarawak and China.
The discussion also highlighted the strong relationship between the Kuching Xiang Qi Association and the China Chinese Chess Association, fostering mutual respect and cooperation.
Jee Xin Ru emphasised the association’s recent activities, which included inviting Chinese chess masters to Kuching for friendly matches and cultural exchanges.
Meanwhile, Lee expressed his support for initiatives that encourage youth engagement in Chinese chess, highlighting its benefits in developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
The Minister praised the association’s efforts and encouraged them to continue their outreach programmes.
