KUCHING: The state government has approved a grant of RM500,000 to be GIVEN to the Association of The Boards of Management of Aided Chinese Primary Schools in Kuching, Samarahan and Serian Division. This was announced by Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg during the association’s 33rd anniversary and fund-raising dinner at SJK Chung Hua No. 3 here on Wednesday.
Johari, who was represented and had his speech read by Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, also added that another RM150,000 has been approved to SJK(C) Tondong.
“The state government views the Chinese education system as an important asset to the state and we will continue with the policies towards Chinese education as laid down by the late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem. “We recognise the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) and we will continue to give financial support to Chinese schools when and where the needs arise,” he said.
The CM added that in the rapidly developing e-commerce and digital age, the Chinese language has become an important asset that one can possess.
“It is not surprising that many Bumiputera parents send their children to Chinese schools to acquire multi-lingual as well as academic skills which will become an added advantage in their future undertakings. “I am very happy to see that the association is working handin- hand with the government’s policy,” he said.
In addi t ion to the grant announced by the state government, Uggah also made a contribution of RM50,000 to the association and there was also a donation by Golden Ants Sdn Bhd for 10 acres of land to relocate a school.
Also present at the event were Second Minister of Finance, Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh, Minister of Local Government and Housing, Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian, State Assemblymen, Lo Khere Chiang (Batu Kitang), Chong Chieng Jen (Kota Sentosa) and See Chee How (Batu Lintang).
