KUCHING: The Malaysian Photovoltaic Industry Association (MPIA) Sarawak Chapter is set to be a transformative force in the realm of renewable energy.

Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Julaihi Narawi said the association’s focus is to bring together diverse stakeholders from industry leaders and researchers to policymakers and technology innovators under one umbrella.

He said one of the primary focuses of the chapter is to ensure smoother implementation of Net Energy Metering (NEM) projects across the state to be realised as soon as possible.

“The chapter actively engages with policymakers and government bodies to influence policies and regulations that support the growth of the photovoltaic industry which is vital in creating an environment conducive to innovation, investment and sustainable development.

“With its commitment to collaboration and advocacy, the chapter aims to facilitate the deployment of NEM projects thereby enabling individuals, businesses and industries to harness the benefits of solar energy in the near future.

“The common goal is to advance solar energy adoption and create a more sustainable energy ecosystem in Sarawak,” he said.

Julaihi said this in his speech at the launching of the MPIA Sarawak Chapter in connection with the second day of Sustainability and Renewable Energy Forum (SAREF 3.0) powered by Sarawak Energy at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching, today.

He said the role of the chapter is crucial, with the state’s abundant renewable resources and the global shift towards energy solutions where opportunities are vast.

“Therefore, the chapter envisions a Sarawak where solar energy is not just a technology but a way of life — powering our homes, businesses and industries while preserving our natural heritage,” he said.

In line with its mission to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange, he said the chapter is extending an invitation to stakeholders from various sectors to join as members.

“By becoming part of the chapter, we believe members will not only contribute to the growth of the photovoltaic industry but also gain access to network of industry professionals, researchers, policymakers and technology innovators statewide or nationwide.
