KUCHING: The Persatuan Anak Istimewa Sarawak (Perais) hopes that people with disabilities (OKU) will be given the opportunity to assume significant positions in the new federal government under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
Its president Rapelson Richard Hamit said he hoped to see the appointment of OKU Senator from Sabah or Sarawak and appointment of OKU in GLCs as well as the local authorities.
“In addition, we hope the prime minister will pay more attention to the needs and development of the disabled in Malaysia, particularly in Sabah and Sarawak,” he said in a statement on Sunday (Aug 22).
On another note, he hoped that Ismail Sabri would settle the political crisis so that the country could focus in tackling Covid-19.
He opined that it would be unnecessary to appoint a deputy prime minister and deputy ministers during this pandemic, instead several ministries could be merged for greater efficiency and effectiveness.
“The eradication of the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as the national economic development and recovery programme should be the main focus for now,” he stressed.
He also commended former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for his services to Malaysians throughout his tenure, including in combatting the Covid-19 outbreak and helping with the economic recovery, despite facing various shortcomings.
