KUCHING: Kuching Hokkien Association (KHA) is planning to reach a wider audience with an array of remarkable photographs it received for its ‘Harmonious Sarawak’ photography contest here.
Its president Datuk Richard Wee said they are hoping to collaborate with Borneo Cultures Museum to showcase the winning photographs to the public.
“We are pleased with the reception to this inaugural competition, which garnered some 350 entries from 40 participants including several entries from Penang,” he said at a press conference where the winners were announced Tuesday.
“With this, we want to highlight the unity and harmony that is present in our society and encourage the public to participate in upcoming processions,” he said.
In addition, Wee also held out hope that the competition will go on to become an annual event on a national scale.
In the competition John Lai and Chong Jen Na emerged champions in the professional and mobile camera category with John winning a cash prize of RM800 while Chong took home RM600.
The second prize in the professional camera category was awarded to Chong Siat Choo with a cash prize of RM600 and third prize went to Wee Eng Hua with RM400.
In the mobile camera category, second prize went to Kho Thong Yong with RM300 cash prize and Vincent Bong took home third prize with RM200.
The event was KHA’s inaugural photography contest held in conjunction with the procession parades for the Seng Ong Kong deity’s birthday on March 13.
Also present at the press conference were the president of Sarawak Photography Society Chan Hua Chiang and committee members of KHA.
