KUCHING: Persatuan Anak Istimewa Sarawak (Perais) welcomes the establishment of Sarawak’s very own television station TVS, to be broadcasted on Astro Channel 122.
According to Perais president Rapelson Richard Hamit, Sarawak should have its own TV station after not having one for an extended period of time.
He said the shows broadcasted on TVS should cover all races, cultures, communities and languages in Sarawak.
“Sarawak is rich in its multi-racial community covering various segments of entertainment, scientific, news, sports, culture and so on,” he said in a statement on Monday (Oct 5).
He also stressed that the community segment which includes special needs children (OKU) should also be emphasised to provide awareness and motivation to the community.
“Similarly, the Para Sukma sports event which will be held in Johor next year should get live broadcast coverage.
“Apart from that, the establishment of TVS as a starting point for Sarawak entertainment media is on par with Media Prima as well as providing various employment opportunities to the people of Sarawak and enhancing and upgrading the media and entertainment industry in Sarawak,” he commended.
Additionally, Rapelson also stressed that the Sarawak government should take over several other autonomous administrations including creating sports bodies and sports academies on par with the National Sports Council (MSN) which covers sports as well as sports for the disabled.
