KUCHING: More than 50 families attended a ‘Happy Family Day’ event yesterday, held at SJK Chung Hua No 3, Jalan Padungan.

Organised by the Kuching Hing Ann Association, in collaboration with Kuching Specialist Hospital (KPJ) and the Ministry of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development, the event was also graced by minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah.

The event started at 8am until 2pm. Among its highlights were two health talks from experts and free medical health checks provided throughout the whole course of the event.

Along with other services, the event also included attractions such as financial consultation and services, funeral information services, photography booths and various entertainment.

A total of 26 booths from different organisations and companies were set up at the event. Patrons enjoyed the benefit learning r about welfare, services, woman empowerment initiatives, cultural, educational, entertainment, healthcare insurance and finance.

Organising chairlady Ling Choon Huang said the event aimed at bringing the community together to spend time with their families, to love and respect each other especially the elders.

Apart from that, the event also brings forth information, awareness and sharing of all the benefits and incentives provided by the state government.

Senior citizens take the opportunity to register themselves to apply for the Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC) at a booth set up by Ministry of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development (KWKPK).

Organising event coordinator Mary Tay said the benefits must reach out to the people.

Among those present were Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng, the Welfare ministry’s permanent secretary Dr Saadiah Putit and political secretary to the chief minister Tan Kai.
