SIBU: A total of 36 non-governmental organisations (NGOs), associations, and religious bodies in the Pelawan constituency received Minor Rural Project (MRP) grants totalling RM217,000 today (Nov 10).
The grants were presented by Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing, and Local Government Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee at the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Pelawan Service Centre.
“I think this is something very unique in Sarawak; we share our resources with all levels of society,” said the Pelawan assemblyman.
He added that Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari is expected to announce further benefits for Sarawakians during the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting, starting tomorrow (Nov 11).
“Abang Johari previously announced that he will be distributing even more ‘goodies’ (government initiatives) to benefit the welfare of Sarawakians. This includes pocket money for Sarawakian university students.
“We have people of all races here receiving the MRP funds, and that is very important. It shows that, regardless of race or background, we are all Sarawakians,” he added.
