Astronaut helps create interest in science

MUKAH: Many students and pupils here were excited to meet national astronaut, Major Dr. Faiz Khaleed during the “Galaxy of Dreams” Programme held at Dewan Suarah Mesra here yesterday.
Dr. Faiz was here at the invitation of the Mukah District Education Department, organiser of the programme.
One of the aims of the programme was to encourage students and pupils to be interested in science.
 The schoolchildren and teachers made full use of the one hour allocated to them to ask the astronaut relevant questions.
Dr. Faiz also asked the schoolchildren questions and rewarded those who interacted well with prizes.
The astronaut began his session by asking the schoolchildren “Who says science is difficult?” .
 When he asked “Is science difficult?”, many schoolchildren raised their hands and replied: “No.”
 Dr Faiz also shared with the schoolchildren and teachers his experience before becoming an astronaut.
 He encouraged the schoolchildren to be interested in science, which included various fields pertaining to outer space.  
Dr. Faiz, who is also a dentist, presented his talk which  also touched on his career with the help of audio visual aids.
Dr. Faiz is one of the two national astronauts in Malaysia. Mukah District Education Officer, Bugin Ragoon thanked Dr. Faiz for attending the programme.

Also present were the Chairman of Mukah Principal Council, Anthony Poon Teck Huat and Mukah Headmaster Council Chairman, Burhanuddin Kederi.
