Taiwanese tech giant Asus’ Republic of Gamers (ROG) has announced on social media that it will be launching the latest Phone 9 smartphones in Malaysia on December 10.

Like its predecessor the ROG Phone 8, the ROG Phone 9 series also consists of three models, namely the regular ROG Phone 9, the ROG Phone 9 Pro, as well as the ROG Phone 9 Pro Edition.

On the outside, the Asus ROG Phone 9 looks pretty much similar to the ROG Phone 8, keeping the mainstream look. The significant upgrades are mainly inside, as it runs on the new and feisty Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. With the top of the top-of-the-line ROG Phone 9 Pro Edition, this chipset is mated to a staggering 24GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.

The ROG Phone 9 sports a 6.78-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display up front which now has a higher adaptive refresh rate of up to 185Hz.

All three devices in the series have a triple camera setup. The ROG Phone 9 Pro series use a 50MP main camera with a 1/1.56″ Sony Lytia 400 sensor and Asus’ new 6-axis Hybrid Gimbal Stabiliser 4.0, a 32MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, and a 13MP ultrawide shooter.

On the other hand, the regular ROG Phone 9 on the other hand loses out on the telephoto shooter but gets a 5MP macro camera instead.

To enhance user gaming experience, Asus added new AI gaming features to the ROG Phone 9 series for popular titles such as Genshin Impact. This includes helping you with automatically picking up items, speeding up in-game conversations that you’ve already gone through before, and helping your character escape from spells.

The AniMe Vision mini-LED matrix display that’s hidden beneath the phone’s back cover has also been enlarged for the ROG Phone 9 Pro and Pro Edition models. You can even play some mini-games using the display, with the AirTrigger capacitive shoulder buttons acting as controls.

All three devices are powered by a 5,800mAh cell which supports 65W wired charging via USB-C. 15W wireless charging is also supported.

Globally, these smartphones price ranged from US$1,000 to US$1,500. Local prices for the smartphones is expected to be announced on the launch date itself.
