SEMATAN: At least 20 percent of candidates to be fielded by Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in the forthcoming 12th state election will be new faces.
But Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice president Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah who disclosed this stopped short of revealing the identity of the new faces.
“The new ones are either from Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) or PBB,” he said.
“But among them, there will be an age bracket that can be said to be relatively young, which is in the 30s,” he said.
Abdul Karim who is Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister said this when met at the Kasih Komuniti@Tanjung Datu 2021 Youth Programme and the Sarawak Youth Camp 2021 Coach and Assistant Coach Certificate and International Recognition on Wednesday (Nov 10).
However, he said, the announcement on new faces would be made by GPS chairman Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.
“On my part, I do know about this matter as I am also in the party, and to some extent we know the changes in the seats.
“We also acknowledge the importance of youth in the upcoming elections,” he added.
He explained that his party would also draw up a programme for the candidates who would be contesting, especially the new ones.
Commenting further, Abdul Karim explained that the youth recruitment process required those who had some experience and skills in any field.
“The youths we take are those who already have experience and skills either in their careers or in voluntary bodies or sports bodies and so on,” he said.
He said this was because the party wished to have only those who were people-centric.
